Gadeside Reserves continued their run of good form with a thumping league win against Oxhey Estate Reserves. Matt Day was able to welcome back skipper Mark Cassidy, Meren Rojo and Will Byrne. The game began at a good tempo and Rangers could have taken the lead in the first minute when a Putman inswinging corner was met at the back post by Day but the ball bobbled between the defenders legs before being cleared. It was a relatively even game for the first ten minutes with midfield duo Cassidy and Putman getting back into the swing of things in the middle of the park. The deadlock was broken when good work by the impressive James Bryon saw his cross headed in by Michael Kayembe to give Rangers a lead. A second followed shortly after when Kayembe was release by Toby Zhou to put a delicate chip over the keeper to give Rangers a comfortable lead.
The second goal brought a swagger and confidence to the Gadeside team, the ball was being played around nicely and the chat was brilliant throughout the side. Putman then released Bryon whose cross was turned in somehow by Cassidy from the edge of the box. Kayembe then completed his hat-trick with just before the break as Gadeside went in with their heads held high. With the game already won, Gadeside were playing the ball around with aplomb; Putman added the fifth with a deflected effort on the hour before sub Will Byrne twisted and turned to score on his return to the side from injury. Gadeside were in such control they could well have been playing out there on there own by now, the tempo didn’t drop and Cassidy bagged his third of the season with a jinking run which was lifted over the onrushing keeper. The on-fire Kayembe then grabbed his fourth of the game and seventh of the season with a blistering strike before Byrne wrapped it up when he smashed the ball home from the edge of the area.
Manager Matt Day commented after the game: “This was a brilliant performance from the lads, every single player came into the game with the right attitude and it showed on the pitch. For once we kept our heads and didn’t drop our level. We just need to carry this forward and push on for next weeks game against North Watford.”
