Gadeside Reserves were handed a lesson in possession football by an organised Victoria FC. A makeshift team missing key players such as midfield duo Putman & Cassidy struggled with the initial pace of the game. Early signs showed that this season is going to be a challenge if performances and attitudes drop off at any point in the match.
Rangers nearly took the lead early on when a long Fitzpatrick through ball found Byrne who shot just wide, Victoria were allowed far to much time all over the park with the game having a pre season feel about it, again though Byrne smashed an effort against the post from good link up play between Zhou and Rojo. Towards the end of the half Rangers began to struggle and a 25 yard strike put Victoria in the lead just before the break.
Gadeside pushed for an equaliser early in the second half but were again out done when a long throw in wasn’t cleared and Victoria finished neatly. Heads dropped as did the performance further and a long ball over the top saw the defence flat footed and allowed the striker time to place his finish inside the post for a resounding 3-0 scoreline.
This performance wasn’t near expectation for the season and the team looked lacklustre and void of ideas in the final third. Hopefully with players returning next week, an improved performance can be put in.
