Gadeside Rangers are through to the second round of the WSFL Intermediate Cup after a fairly comfortable win against Langleybury CC. Gadeside rarely got out of first gear in this game but still had enough to win the game and set up a trip to Rickmansworth Town in the next round.
Gadeside were dominant early on and had chances to take an early lead. Tom Shurville saw a header come back off the crossbar from Chris Fitzpatrick's right wing cross and Tom Mitchell saw thwarted close home by the diving keeper. But the deadlock was broken on 18 minutes when good build up by Fitzpatrick saw the ball find Dave Nelmes who side-stepped his marker before cooly finishing past the keeper. Ian McIntosh then saw his ferocious long range effort crash off the crossbar before Tom Mitchell doubled the lead on the half hour when he converted Adam Hills' low cross. The hosts threatened briefly before half time; Tom Shurville kicking a free kick off the line and then Tom Oliver smartly pushing away a free kick from Gilmaney but Gadeside took a two goal cushion into the break.
The second half was a fairly turgid affair as the game seemed to lose any fluency. A couple of late challenges sparked tempers on both sides and the briefly the game threatened to boil over. Chris Fitzpatrick should have scored but fired straight at the keeper when through on goal but Gadeside got the crucial third goal on 63 minutes when Dave Nelmes grabbed his second with a classy curling effort from the edge of the penalty area. Hills should have made it four when played through but his lobbed effort was poor and was easily saved while Mitchell headed over when well placed. Langleybury grabbed a goal back with 11 minutes to play when Lumb centred from Reid to score from close range but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed when sub Tariq Khan saw his a crisp drive from the edge of the area squeeze under the keeper.
