Gadeside Rangers still await their first win of the season after they contrived to miss a host of good chances against Dewhurst Guild at Westfield. Gadeside were again without a host of players but were able to welcome back Dan Campbell and Ed Shurville into the side.
Gadeside put Dewhurst on the backfoot from the word go and looked dangerous when they got the ball wide. Russ Popplewell enjoyed a number of foraging runs against the Dewhurst defence but for their possession and dominance, it was the visitors who took the lead on 20 minutes. Gadeside's defence were caught square defending a long free kick and visiting striker Harry Collins nipped in to lob the ball over the stranded Tom Oliver.
Gadeside were soon back on the offensive and drew level just 4 minutes later. Gadeside counter attacked well from a Dewhurst corner and a powerful run forward by Dan Campbell saw him lay the ball into the path of strike-partner Dave Nelmes who cooly tucked the ball home from 8 yards. Campbell had the ball in the net minutes later but referee Yovkov ruled the effort out for a foul, the first of three disallowed goals for Campbell while Dave Nelmes brought a good save from visiting keeper Garratt.
Gadeside again enjoyed long spells of possession in the second half but it was Dewhurst who had arguably the best chance when another long free kick was not dealt with an Collins should have scored but Tom Oliver blocked well at his feet. At the other end, Hills saw a low free kick go just wide, Nelmes was denied again by Garratt and Campbell saw two efforts ruled out for offside. But the best chances came in the final three minutes as first Tom Shurville saw his low drive go agonisingly wide and then a strong run by Ian McIntosh saw him shoot when he should have squared to a number of players lining up to finish.
It was definitely a case of two points dropped for Gadeside who have somehow managed just one goal in two games. It was far from a bad performance however and hopefully things will click soon.
