Match Report - Cassiobury Rangers vs - 26/04/2009

Sunday 26 April 2009 - Friendly
 Cassiobury Rangers1

 Gadeside Rangers0

at Parmiters School

Gadeside Rangers lost an entertaining game by a single goal against Cassiobury Rangers in their final friendly of the season but did enough to have at least got a draw but found the Cassiobury goalkeeper in good form. Gadeside fielded a mix of first team and reserve players whilst also taking the opportunity to look at a couple of new faces for next season in the shape of Warren Kassam, a former player at non-league Dulwich Hamlet and Lao Yu - a friend of Toby Zhou who has played a decent standard in his native China.
Cassiobury started well putting Gadeside under some early pressure and looked dangerous when getting the ball wide. Tom Oliver in the Gadeside goal made a couple of decent saves while Cassiobury went close with a header from a corner that just went wide. Gadeside thought they had taken the lead midway through the first half when Tariq Khan weaved his way through the defence and crossed for Bartosz Wiernik who steered the ball home. However, the linesman's flag was raised, what for who knows? Ian Freeman and Ben Higginson both had excellent games at the heart of the Gadeside defence but were caught out from a long clearance by the Cassiobury keeper allowing a home striker who cooly slot past Tom Oliver.
Gadeside's second half performance was much improved with Tariq Khan again looking lively. Twice he should have brought the scores level when one-on-one with the keeper, the first effort going just wide and the second being straight at the keeper. Toby Zhou was next to be denied with a low drive smartly turned round the post by the keeper. Gadeside pushed men forward looking for the equaliser but it was not to come. A decent workout none the less.
