Gadeside Rangers recorded their fourth 6-2 victory of the season after beating Inter at Westfield. The damage was done in a devastating opening half hour as Dan Campbell grabbed all four of Gadeside's goals with a masterclass of finishing. Tom Shurville missed out through suspension allowing Daniel Brooks a return into the midfield with Kevin Putman while Matt Evans was unavailable.
An early goal always seems to settle Gadeside down and it duly arrived on four minutes when Tom Mitchell freed Dan Campbell who advanced on goal from the left hand side to confidently fire past the Inter keeper. Campbell was causing mayhem for the Inter defence with a series of powerful runs down the left hand side and only some excellent last ditch defending twice prevented him from finding the net again. But it was soon 2-0 when Campbell powerfully volleyed home after a corner was only half cleared. It was not all one way traffic however as the Gadeside defence seemed to struggle against the strong wind and were caught out a number of times by a long ball. An Inter midfielder saw a powerful strike hit the outside of Tom Oliver's post and the Gadeside keeper was almost caught out by the wind when fumbled the ball but recovered well to save on the line with a striker ready to pounce.
The Inter defence were soon back under pressure and Gadeside added a third when Campbell completed his hat-trick after Danny Everritt's deep free kick was not cleared. Gadeside were playing some nice football on the bobbly surface and looked dangerous every time they went forward. Tariq Khan should have scored when clean through but his effort was well saved and Tom Mitchell was given a golden opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet when he was felled in the area. However his spot kick was poor and tricked wide of the post. But it was Campbell who grabbed his and Gadeside's fourth on 40 minutes he twisted in the box and rifled a shot into the top corner. The visitors pulled a goal back right on half time when Hurley scored a diving header from a deep free-kick.
The second half saw Inter come out and have a real go at Gadeside. Again Gadeside's defence failed to deal with the wind and far too often were caught square. Hurley grabbed his second off the game when capitalised on a poor backpass by James Bridges and Gadeside were indebted to Tom Oliver moments later when he produced another world class save as Hurley again broke through. However, Gadeside soon got back into the game and Campbell turned provider to Ivanz Mani who ran on to lob the ball over the advancing keeper to make it 5-2. Sub Bartosz Wiernik, making his Gadeside first team debut - went close after good work by Mani and Campbell twice saw close range efforts well saved by the Inter keeper. The final goal of the game came on 82 minutes when another powerful run by Campbell saw him find Kevin Putman six yards out and he found the net despite the best attempts of an Inter defender on the line.
Gadeside were at times back to their best today and had they been more clinical with their finishing could have racked up a far more convincing tally of goals. That said Inter made a good game of it and Gadeside's defence must sharpen up ahead of next Sunday's tricky trip to play Cassiobury Rangers.
