For the second season in succession, Colne Valley ended Gadeside Rangers' unbeaten run as they came from behind to score three times in the second half.
Dan Campbell, Danny Everritt and Jay Evans missed out through injury and John Wilkins was unavailable so in came Jason Brownhill, Daniel Brooks and Ian Freeman whist their was also a welcome return for top scorer Tom Mitchell. It had all started so well for Gadeside when Tariq Khan opened the scoring when he pounced on Russ Popplewell's header to toe-poke the ball from close range. With the wind at their back in the first half, Gadeside were relatively dominant and Valley struggled to get out of their own half. Kevin Putman's stinging drive was well pushed away by the Valley keeper and Popplewell shot just over after cutting in from the left. But all too often Gadeside's quality was lacking as they struggled on the bobbly pitch.
The second half was a scrappy affair as both sides cancelled each other out in the early parts before Valley grabbed the equaliser on the hour. The Gadeside defence were caught square and Matt Bonnick advanced on goal and lobbed the ball over the onrushing Tom Oliver. Gadeside huffed and puffed but had totally lost their rhythm and rarely troubled the Valley keeper. It came as little suprise when Valley took the lead when Martin Skinner went through on goal and though Tom Oliver looked to have done enough to keep it out, the ball span past Matt Evans on the line and in. Things got from bad to worse for Gadeside as Matt Evans had to be taken to hospital with a severly twisted knee and Tom Shurville picked up two quick bookings from petulant off the ball incidents.
Gadeside threw men forward in a search for the equaliser but in all truth it was Valley who still looked more dangerous and added the killer third with full time approaching as Dan Gibbons scored from 10 yards. A very disappointing performance from Gadeside who remain level on points with Old Danes but with a game in hand.
Manager Adam Hills commented: "We were poor all round today. In both our preparations for the game and our conduct on it. Some people need to take a very close look at themselves. That said, it's one defeat and we have always said we win and lose as a team. Hopefully it will serve as the kick up the arse that we needed and I expect a reaction from my players both at training and for the game against Reed Rangers next week."
