Second half goals from James Bridges and Tariq Khan maintain Gadeside's 100% start to the season with a workmanlike performance against Old Danes.
Manager Adam Hills asked for a response from his players after the lacklustre display against Headstone the week before - and whilst this was not vintage Gadeside, it was a performance that was quite professional and one which they controlled throughout. Gadeside attacked from the word go with new signing Ev Altinok linking up well with Jay Evans on the left and it was this combo that set up an early chance for Tom Shurville who controlled Evans' cross well but twice saw his powerful drives blocked by the Old Danes keeper. At the other end O'Malley fired wide but the Gadeside defence, marshalled by the returning James Bridges kept Old Danes chances to a minimum and the two sides went in goalless at the break.
Old Danes nearly started the second half with a bang as first Tom Shurville and then Danny Everritt made superb blocks to deny Chris Honour. But Gadeside began to impose themselves with a flurry of attacks. The introduction of Dan Campbell saw the hosts adopt a more direct approach as they pushed Old Danes back. The deadlock was finally broken on 56 minutes in devastating style. Matt Evans saw his header from a right wing corner cleared off the line with the ball being cleared to the edge of the box to where James Bridges hit a swirving shot on the turn which arrowed into the top corner. Old Danes almost drew level straight away when Tom Oliver came to Gadeside's rescue; superbly turning over a fierce strike by Beasant.
But from then on it was generally one way traffic as Gadeside played with more purpose and it was no surpise when they doubled their lead on 75 minutes. Tariq Khan had already gone close when bringing a good save from the keeper but he made sure with his second chance with a crisp finish after turning his marker in the box. As Old Danes chased a way back into the game, they left gaps at the back as Gadeside looked to play on the break. With minutes remaining, Dan Campbell should have scored when he had a clear run on goal but fired straight at the keeper and then Tom Mitchell saw his effort deflected onto the crossbar from the rebound. The game finished 2-0 and saw Gadeside open up a 3 point lead at the top of the Premier Division.
