Gadeside Rangers continued their good start to the league season with a comfortable victory over the league's bottom side Rising Eagles. Two goals in each half from Tom Shurville, Ben Higginson, Adam Hills and Toby Zhou set Gadeside on their way to maintain their 100% start to the season.
Gadeside attacked at will during a very one sided first half and went ahead in the seventh minute when Tom Shurville scored from close range after captain a Matt Evans header at goal from an Ivanz Mani corner. The visitors goal was peppered and only some superb goalkeeping kept the score down as Adam Hills (twice), Jay Evans and Tariq Khan were all thwarted. It was from another corner that Gadeside doubled their lead when Ben Higginson pounced on a poor clearance to steer a low drive into the bottom corner.
Higginson could then have gone on to complete a quickfire hat-trick but he missed his kick with the goal gaping after good build up by Jay Evans and then saw a speculative effort drop just wide of the far post. Half-time came with Gadeside well on top but with only two goals to show. It was more of the same in the second half as Gadeside's dominance was evident but the chances were less clear cut. Hills thought he had scored when he rounded the keeper and shot for goal only for it to be cleared - albeit fully 2ft over the line...but he had another chance to score when he was awarded a penalty after being bear-hugged in the box. Hills stepped up to slot the ball home.
Toby Zhou was next in on the act when he scored with his first touch after smashing home a free kick from Hills. The hosts continued to press but could not add to their total but by then the game was already won.
Gadeside face a tough game next week as they travel to old rivals Abbots Langley in the league.
