Gadeside Rangers progressed to the second round of the Herts Sunday Senior Cup though they were made to work hard by Mercury Waltham League opponents Lea Valley Royals as they came from a goal down at half-time to score three second half goals without reply.
Gadeside started brightly with some slick passing and Adam Hills nearly broke the deadlock when his low drive was superbly saved by Mills in the visitors goal. The visitors had plenty of the ball themselves and hit the Gadeside post following a swift counter attack following a Gadeside corner. Gadeside take the lead on 18 minutes when Tom Shurville powered into the box before sliding the ball past Mills and into the far corner. But far from see that goal settle Gadeside, they spent the remainder of the half on the backfoot. Sam Green was twice called upon to make good saves but he could do nothing to prevent Lea Valley's equaliser when a defensive mix up allowed a visiting striker a free run on goal and he cooly slotted past Green.
Worse was to follow as the visitors took the lead just before half-time when a pinpoint corner was powerfully headed home. However, like last week - Gadeside scored two quick goals after half-time to turn they game around. Tom Shurville grabbed his second of the game with a stunning drive from 25 yards and he was involved in the build up to third as Gadeside finally found their rhythm. Shurville freed Ivanz Mani on the right and his low cross was turned in by Toby Zhou.
With the visitors clearly rocked - Gadeside grabbed a killer fourth when Adam Hills pounced on a headed backpass to the lob the ball over the advancing Mills. The final stages of the game were very open with both sides having numerous chances but the game finished 4-2 and left Gadeside with a second round trip to play AEK Letchworth.
