A stunning first half display set Gadeside up for a comfortable victory against Watford Sunday Third Division side Bushey Rangers. All the goals came in the first half as Gadeside's relentless attacks put their opponents to the sword.
Once again Gadeside looked like scoring from every set-piece they had and it was no surprise when they took an early lead when a Bushey defender redirected James Bridges' header into his own net. Bridges and Tom Shurville caused numerous problems from corners and free kicks with excellent delivery from John Wilkins and it was only a matter of time before Bridges headed home from close range to double Gadeside's lead.
The same pair nearly combined again for another goal but Shurville came to the rescue for Bushey as he blocked a close range drive from Bridges on the goal-line. Debutant Dan Campbell had already gone close on several occassions when he finally grabbed the goal he deserved; scoring with a cracking half-volley from the edge of the box which left the keeper with no chance whatsoever. It was all one way traffic and Tom Shurville was to score his second goal of pre-season as he cooly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper after reacting first to a quick throw-in.
It was 5-0 just on half-time as good work by Campbell allowed him to free Adam Hills who fired past the advancing keeper to round off a fabulous 45 minutes for Gadeside. Bushey showed a more determined and aggressive showing for the second half and Gadeside were not able to find the rhythm they had in the first. Tariq Khan and Toby Zhou both went close while John Wilkins saw a cross flash across the face of goal. Sam Green had a composed and relatively easy evening in the Gadeside goal and the game finished at 5-0.
The ease with which Gadeside sliced through their opponents with some slick play in the first half was very encouraging and bodes well for the coming season. Gadeside are due to face The Cross on Sunday at Westfield.
