Gadeside Rangers were back on the winning trail with a 4-2 victory over The Old Shepherd. The result cements Gadeside's position in third place with two games remaining.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Gadeside got off to the perfect start when Jay Evans smashed home a free kick from 20 yards. The visitors found it difficult to get out of their own half with the strong wind but Gadeside never really asked the visiting keeper any questions.
The lead was doubled midway through the half when a deep free kick from Tom Mitchell was taken by the wind, bounced in the box and nestled in the top left hand corner of the goal. Adam Hills should have scored when put clear by Danny Everritt but he made amends just before half time with a deft lob over the advancing keeper.
Playing against the wind in the second half, Gadeside's defence coped well in front of the assured hands of Darren Hufford. Hills should have made it four when again clean through but Tariq Khan made sure when he scored from close range. Gadeside took their foot off the pedal and were punished when O'Malley volleyed home from 15 yards.
It got worse when Ian Freeman was incorrectly adjudged to have handled on the line. Byrne scored the resulting spot kick and Freeman survived with just a yellow card. Gadeside comfortably held on to secure the 3 points in what was a pretty lacklustre game.
