Gadeside Rangers' league title challenge suffered a massive blow as they slumped to defeat against a determined Colne Valley side who never gave Gadeside a chance to play.
Gadeside were able to welcome back Rob Metcalf, Danny Everritt, Matt Evans and Shanton Towle after illness but Tom Mitchell, Daniel Brooks and Russ Popplewell all missed out through injury. Things had started so well for Gadeside as good work by Jason Brownhill saw the ball worked to Ivanz Mani who fired home at the far post to give the visitors the lead.
Had Jay Evans converted a close range header from another Brownhill cross, Gadeside might have gone on to record a comfortable victory but Evans failed to get sufficient contact and soon after Gadeside were punished when a deep free kick was scrambled home from close range.
With the scores level at half-time, Gadeside were confident they could go on to victory shooting down the hill but it was mainly one way traffic on Metcalf's goal. It was no surprise when Valley did take the lead when Tom Seamons scored from the penalty spot after Ben Higginson had brought down a Valley attacker.
Gadeside pushed forward for an equaliser but left gaps at the back which Valley exploited as will. Metcalf twice pulled off good saves to keep Gadeside in the game but the game was sewn up on 75 minutes when Higginson failed to clear allowing a Valley striker a clear run on goal and he made no mistake. A disappointing day all round for Gadeside who never looked at the races and failed to show any of the committment which the home side had shown.
